Dr. Sunanda Kaushik
Dr. Sunanda was born in Agra on October 1st 1975 as Sunanda Bhardwaj. With both of her parents being doctors for the Haryana government, she grew up in various hospitals due to residencies of her parents.She inherited the medical and hospital gene while “breathing in” medical and hospital air galore growing up. Coming from a privileged family, she still knows what coming from non-privileged backgrounds. Her father worked his way from the non-privileded part of Indian society to success. Thus he and his wife being able to offer their daughter a privileged start for her life.

She studied ayurvedic medicine at MDU (Maharshi Dayanand University) Rohtak where she also met Dr. Narendra Kaushik, and finished her BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) at MDU Rohtak in 1997.
She then had the honor and chance to learn and study with acclaimed Ayurvedic expert Vaidya Suresh Chaturvedi in Mumbai, following the Guru Shishya Parampara tradition and she finished her CRAV (Certificate of Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth), specializing in cancer treatments in 2001.

Dr. Sunanda agreed to her parent’s suggestion of an arranged marriage with Dr. Narendra Kaushik. She had a precise idea of what kind of husband she wanted. Dr. Kaushik met her criteria because she could see the noble character, the hard working attitude, and the love for patients and mankind in him – so she was happy with her parent’s choice. They are blessed with two kids, a daughter and a son.
Dr. Sunanda was working as an Ayurvedic doctor for the MCD (Municipality Corporation of Delhi) while at the same time raising their two young children, while Dr. Kaushik was completing his residencies and specialty degrees in the early years.
After Dr. Kaushik started Olmec in 2010 she also helped on the weekends in managing the budding Olmec “sibling”.

While Dr. Kaushik made sure that OLMEC further established its India-wide and worldwide reputation for excellent surgical results, Dr. Sunanda kept up the managing aspect of the constantly growing 3rd child (Olmec) they had.
Dr. Narendra Kaushik and Dr. Sunnda Kaushik reached a milestone, when on April 7th 2019 the new OLMEC Healthcare Transgender Surgery building got inaugurated with a dedicated ward for international patients.
Her goal as managing director of Olmec is – and always has been – to provide affordable, high-quality medical care, especially for the Indian transgender community.
Other areas of empathy and dedication for Dr. Sunanda include education for girls, improving quality of life for blind people, and putting an end to child trafficking and having children missing.
A future project she is currently working on is to hold regular group meetings to educate society and parents of transgender children on how to best deal with the challenge of leading a transgender life in today’s society.
